In addition to touring examples of best practices, project partners also held a meeting with local decision-makers and city administration officials.
As part of the study trip, REA North visited the Competence Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, the central research organization operating within the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
The Center focuses on tackling current and future challenges of the energy transition from an interdisciplinary perspective. It also develops practical solutions for a wide range of technological, social, political, and economic issues, thus making a lasting contribution to effective climate and environmental protection.

One of the main goals of the Center is to encourage cooperation between businesses, universities, and institutions in order to support the development of practical solutions and innovations in the field of renewable energy. Among other things, REA North and other OUR-CEE project partners visited the wind laboratory and the smart grid laboratory at the Center.

In addition to visiting the Competence Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, a visit was also organized to HafenCity, which is the largest urban redevelopment area in Europe, located in the central part of the city on land that was formerly used as a port.
The project involves transforming former industrial sites, including the old river port and gasworks, covering a total area of 157 hectares. The entire area is divided into 13 districts, and the redevelopment project is expected to be completed around 2030. HafenCity is envisioned as a carbon-neutral urban waterfront district.

The event brings together city representatives, policymakers, building and construction industry experts, as well as civil society representatives who will exchange experiences and knowledge on building energy efficiency over the course of three days.

On the second day of the forum, May 21, REA North organized a Knowledge Exchange Event as part of the project Overcoming Underperforming Renovations in Central and Eastern Europe (OUR-CEE), which brought together project partners from Romania, Bulgaria, and Poland, along with a significant number of other forum participants.

As part of the knowledge exchange, REA North also hosted a panel session at the C4E Forum titled “Advancing High-Performance Renovations in the Public Building Stock of Central and Eastern Europe”, featuring experts from various countries.

In addition to the panel session, the OUR-CEE project was also presented in the Knowledge Hub through a poster exhibition.

Alongside the OUR-CEE project, REA North also presented a new project from the European Climate Initiative program, titled Harmonized Renovation Methodology for the Worst-Performing Public Buildings in the CEE Region (REDESIGN), which it leads as the coordinating partner.

The REDESIGN project targets the 16% of public-use buildings with the poorest energy performance in Central and Eastern Europe, aiming to enhance the preparedness for renovation processes of these buildings by proposing Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) they should meet.

Both the OUR-CEE and REDESIGN projects are funded by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) program.

The training is intended for architects, engineers, experts, technicians, workers, and all those interested in the field of construction.

The announced training will be held in the multimedia hall of the Tech Park Varazdin, located at Zagrebacka Street 89. The training will take place as part of the activities of the nZEB Ready project, funded by the Horizon2020 program, and will cover topics such as quality sealing, minimizing thermal bridges, integrating renewable energy sources into buildings, as well as new materials and technologies in construction.

Participation in the training is free of charge, and participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance for completing the module. Due to a limited number of available spots, registration for the nZEB training module “General Skills Related to nZEB Construction” on September 26 and 27 is mandatory. During the final conference, a joint workshop of the OutPHit, nZEB Ready, SMART2, and DiVIRTUE projects was held under the title Skills and Knowledge for High-Performance Buildings, focusing on innovation and knowledge exchange, intended for architects, engineers, energy consultants, and anyone connected to sustainable construction in some way.

Damir Mandic, Head of Business Development at REA North, through the topic Training and education to enhance market readiness for nearly zero energy buildings, presented the activities of educating professionals that REA North has carried out through the nZEB Ready project in Croatia.

At the end of the final conference, a joint visit of the partners of the OutPHit, nZEB Ready, SMART2, and DiVIRTUE projects was organized to the Bulgarian Passive House Shop, where the principles of construction and the materials used in the construction of passive houses were presented.

The final 7th partner meeting of the nZEB Ready project was held the following day, August 23, during which the partners discussed the final activities remaining until the end of the project. Damir Mandic presented the results of activities aimed at raising public awareness about nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB), conducting interactive training sessions for representatives of public administration and experts in the fields of construction, architecture, and mechanical engineering, as well as providing guidelines for the implementation of public procurement procedures to stimulate demand for nZEB construction skills.

The relevance of the workshop’s main topic hardly needs emphasizing, given the increasing emphasis on energy efficiency and the use of smart technology in building construction. The workshop will cover topics such as “Tools for achieving optimal efficiency and enhancing the smart readiness of the building” and “Implementation of smart readiness assessment through energy performance certification.” Additionally, Damir Mandic, Business Development Manager at REA North, will present the activities carried out by REA North through the nZEB Ready project in Croatia in his „Training and education to enhance market readiness for nearly zero energy buildings session.”

This event provides an opportunity for networking and connecting with experts in the field of energy efficiency and sustainable construction from 13 EU countries. Objava Final Conference and Joint Workshop of the nZEB Ready Project at the End of August in Sofia pojavila se prvi puta na Regionalna energetska agencija.

On the first day, Steering Committee was held, where the activities carried out so far were discussed, along with the upcoming first financial and narrative report and the tasks from the work packages that need to be completed in the next six months.

In the further working part of the meeting, the second Transnational Forum of partners was held, where the current status of the development of the platform to be used for electric vehicle charging stations was presented. Each partner with a planned investment in platform development presented the technical details of their investment, such as the number of charging stations they plan to install, the power of the chargers, AC or DC connectors, the number of electric cars they plan to acquire, and who these cars will be available to.

Through the RuralMED Mobility project financed throughout Interreg Euro-MED programme, the Koprivnica-Krizevci County will invest in the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in the municipalities of Gornja Rijeka, Ferdinandovac, Gola, and Kalnik, during which REA North will provide the county with technical assistance and support during the public procurement of the charging stations.

As part of the meeting in Thessaloniki, a study visit to the Center for Research and Technology (CERTH) was organized, where the project partners were introduced to the work of the center, specifically applications for monitoring CO2 emissions and traffic in the city of Thessaloniki.

The study visit to CERTH concluded with a presentation of a driving simulator that predicts various scenarios that can occur while driving, such as sudden pedestrian crossings, blind turns, and aquaplaning, i.e., the separation between the tire’s contact surface and the road when there is a large amount of water on the road.

The replication workshop of the nZEB Ready project was held as part of the training program for working with the EU City Calculator web tool from the EUCityCalc project, both projects funded by the Horizon2020 program.

Damir Mandic, Business Development Manager at REA North, presented the main results of the nZEB Ready project to the participants of the replication workshop. The project’s goal was to increase the market’s readiness for the efficient implementation of projects related to the nZEB construction standard and to stimulate the demand for workers and professionals who will have the necessary skills in the field of energy efficiency and sustainable construction.

In his presentation, Damir Mandic emphasized that the project’s goals in Croatia were achieved through activities aimed at raising public awareness about nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB), conducting interactive training sessions for representatives of public administration and professionals from the fields of construction, architecture, and mechanical engineering, and providing guidelines for the implementation of public procurement procedures to stimulate the demand for nZEB construction skills.

Participants of the replication workshop showed particular interest in the activities conducted for representatives of public administration, specifically in informing and educating about the possibilities of energy renovation of existing buildings and the construction of new ones according to the nZEB standard. They were also interested in the practical part of the training, where participants were introduced to building air-tightness testing using the Blower-door test, the use of thermal cameras, devices for testing heat transfer coefficients, and more.

Regional Energy Agency North plans to continue its activities in raising awareness about the nZEB construction standard even after the nZEB Ready project concludes.

Objava Replication Workshop of the nZEB Ready Project Held in Sveti Martin na Muri pojavila se prvi puta na Regionalna energetska agencija.

The training gathered representatives of professional departments of the City of Split who were introduced to the topics of national and EU nZEB policies and the obligations of public administrations in relation to policies, planning energy renovations and installations of renewable energy sources and ensuring the quality of works during energy renovations.

Interactive activities were prepared for the two-day training, in which participants were encouraged to actively discuss, participate in practical work, and were presented with equipment for checking the quality of work performed, such as equipment for testing air permeability in buildings and thermal imaging cameras.

At the end of the training, participants were awarded Certificates of Completion.

The training was held as part of the activities of the EU project nZEB Ready from the Horizon 2020 program.

This event reaffirmed the significant interest in the topic of bioclimatic design.

The training was conducted as part of the activities from the nZEB Ready project, under the Horizon2020 program for professionals in the fields of construction and architecture.

Participants benefited from the lecture by Professor Bojan Milovanovic from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb, where they learned about the definition and key features of bioclimatic design, as well as concepts such as bioclimatic buildings, green roofs, healthy living, smart materials, and the principles of designing according to the nZEB standard versus the principles of bioclimatic design.

The training will be part of the activities of the nZEB Ready project funded by the Horizon2020 program and will cover topics such as planning energy renovations, ensuring the quality of works performed according to the nZEB standard, and the economic efficiency of nZEB projects.

Upon completion of the two-day training, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.
